I came to photography quite late in my adult life and as my interest has grown, so it has given me the opportunity to express myself in the way I see the world around me in all its different shades and colours . Although I appreciate that it is a niche subject matter, I hope there will be some that share my wonderment at the gritty reality that is all around us. It never ceases to amaze me how the people I depict, have vulnerability and strength in equal measure . If a picture paints a thousand words, then my hope is that these faces represent a novel.
The subject matter although difficult , is not meant to force the viewer into a sense of pity . Rather, I am trying to give the subjects the dignity that maybe society all too often denies them . If we all know that the clothes do not make a person then I truly wish that these photos, at least go some way to show that there but for the grace of God go all of us. Look into their eyes and you may be surprised that in fact you are looking in the mirror .
